## Do I Need Drain Jetting, Septic Tank Emptying, or a Combination Tanker?

Calling a standard domestic drain unblocking van with a small jetter to a rural septic tank problem often results in a wasted callout fee. Why? Because if your septic tank is full to the inlet invert, **you cannot jet a blocked drain into a full septic tank**—the jetted water and dislodged waste have nowhere to go until a vacuum tanker pumps the primary chamber down below the inlet pipe.

| Tanker & Jetting Combination Service | Best For | Equipment Deployed | 2026 Typical UK Cost |
| :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- |
| **Standard Septic Tank Empty Only** | Tank full over inlet pipe; drains clear once level drops | 2,000–3,000 Gal Vacuum Tanker | **£170 – £280** |
| **Tanker Empty + High-Pressure Inlet Jetting** | Full tank + hard fat/wipe plug in the last 10m of inlet pipe | Combination Jet-Vac Tanker | **£240 – £360** |
| **Root Cutting & Descaling + Tanker Empty** | Willow/ash tree roots penetrating clay salt-glaze joints | Warthog Root Cutter + Tanker | **£320 – £480** |
| **Full Empty + Jetting + CCTV Camera Trace** | Recurring blockages caused by sagged/bellied pipework | Jet-Vac + Sonar/CCTV Rig | **£380 – £525** |

## Signs You Need a Combined Jet-Vac Tanker

- **Hard Crust Bridging Over the Inlet Tee:** When a septic tank goes 3+ years without emptying, the floating crust petrifies into a solid plug inside the 90-degree inlet bend, requiring both 3,000 PSI water jetting and vacuum suction simultaneously.
- **Sagged Plastic Pipe Runs in Clay Soil:** Ground movement in rural gardens frequently creates a low spot ("belly") in the foul drain before the tank where wet wipes and limescale accumulate.
